Pre-Production

These are the photos that I took that could possibly be used in my final pieces.
I chose not to use any of these photos as some were too blurry and unfocused, some were too dark and some where her face couldn't be seen.

These are the photos that I chose to possibly use in my finished pieces. I liked these photos because I felt they had a large variety between them all and were all interesting to look at. I think that the artist was also easily recognisable from these photos.

Album Advert
Layout Plan

I will have the artists name and chosen photo take up the top half of the advert.
The bottom half will then be on a black background where information such as album name and reviews will be.

Magazine Article
Layout Plan

This is a draft version of the article that I want to write for my magazine.
Q.What's your favourite thing about doing what you do?
Being on tour, or maybe releasing music, that's a great feeling!
Q.What don't you like about making music?
Being away from home.
Q.Is there anything you wish you had done differently about your album?
No! I would have liked to have released it sooner, but I wanted it to be perfect!
Q.Do you ever think you'll get used to this level of fame?
Probably not, is it possible to ever get used to something like that?
Q.What's your favourite thing about your fans?
Can I say everything? They're like my friends
Q.What's your favourite memory made whilst making your album?
Either finishing it, or releasing it, both were so emotional.

I then made the article more detailed, and made the interview seem more relaxed and 'chat like' to make a connection with the artist and interview. This will make the audience feel more involved and less tense whilst reading the article. This is my final article.

She’s the UK’s most successful newcomer of this year - she talks her debut album ‘sunset’, her beloved fans and what we can expect from her in the near future.

Whats your favourite thing about doing what you do?
Being on tour, performing every night to my fans. It’s the greatest feeling in the world. Or maybe releasing new music and seeing my fans reactions to it, that’s always a good feeling.

Anything you don’t like?
Hmm, maybe, being away from home probably.

You don’t sound very sure...
Well it’s a difficult question. I don’t like to complain much about what I do because I know that I’m very lucky. Although I hate being on a red carpet. Having all those people shouting at me telling me what to do whilst flashing a camera in my face terrifies me!

Is there anything you wish you had done differently, or regret doing about this album?
No! I would have liked to have been quicker making my album, but I wanted it to be perfect.

So, you’re always being followed by your fans, some of who are outside now!
Are they! Bless them.

Do you think you’ll ever get used to being followed by your fans?
I don’t know. Is it possible to every be used to something like that? Actually I think that’s another favourite thing about what I do, meeting my fans.

So, I think it’s quite obvious you love your fans.
Of course!

What’s your favourite thing about them?
Oh wow. I don’t know! Can I say everything? Erm, I like that they’re always honest with me. They tell me when they don’t agree with me about something. I’m very appreciative of that. They’re so cute when they send me pictures of what they’re doing or wearing. They’re like my friends!
It took 2 years to make your album, what’s your favourite memory from those two years?
Either finishing the album or releasing it definitely. Finishing two years of work was so exciting and seeing the fans reactions after it released was so emotional. Those two moments are definitely my favourite memories.

e-Media
Layout Plan
Home page

For the home page, I decided to write a welcoming post from the artist addressing the audience who are visiting her website.
Plan for home page introduction

Hello, welcome to my website.

I started recording youtube videos 3 years ago before I was signed, where I now make music for everyone!

Recording my album was so nerve wracking but I had a lot of fun doing it. I hope you all like my first single 'trust' and my debut album 'sunset'.

Thank you all so much for supporting me and buying my music!

I Then decided to add more detail to this to make the artist seem more friendly and welcoming.

Hello! I'm Madison and welcome to my only website!

I started recording videos for youtube about 3 years ago just for fun, and was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to be signed to my record label, to make music for you guys!

When I started making youtube videos, I would never have expected all of this to happen to me!

I was so nervous to start recording my first album but it was so much fun being in the studio every day making music. When my ‘trust’ my first single released I was so nervous for you all to hear it because I knew how excited you were and I didn’t want to disappoint you.
A few days before the release day for my debut album ‘sunset’ I was getting so many messages from everyone telling me how excited they were to hear my album, after waiting two years for the album to be finished. I was so nervous to release it knowing how excited everyone was as I didn’t want to disappoint you all.

I can’t thank you guys enough for supporting me and buying my music.

Info page

In the info page I will tell the audience the artists life before she released the album. I will make it interesting for the audience to read by

Plan for info page text
Born Orlando, Florida on 16th July 1993.
Always had an interest in music.
Madison and her family moved to Manchester when she was 4.
As she grew up, she became more interested in music.
She became distracted by music at school, however she realised this and worked hard to pass all of her exams.
She went to college where she realised she needed to do something to be able to achieve her dream, so she started making youtube videos of her singing.
Her videos weren't popular at first, taking over a month to get 100 views. However as she uploded more, her videos became more and more popular.
She was discovered at 17 and signed to army records where she started recording her debut album, whilst still recording youtube videos when she could.
After two years of making the album, she released her first single and debut album which both shot to number one.

Then from this plan, I created the final text that I wanted to go in my website.

Madison was born in Orlando, Florida on 16th July 1993. She
always had an interest in music from a young age. Madison and her English born parents moved to Manchester, England when she was just 4 years old.

As Madison grew up, she remembers becoming more and more interested in music, often daydreaming about music instead of doing her school work!

Making music is all Madison has wanted to do. She remembers being laughed at by people when she said she wanted to sing and make music at 15 years old. This only made her more determined she said.

Trying to focus on school work was difficult when all she could think of was music, but she realised she needed to work hard to pass her exams, so she did! She managed to pass her exams and went to college.

It was at college when Madison realised that she needed to do something to be able to achieve her dream, so in her free time she recorded videos of her singing different covers of songs and uploaded them to youtube.
At first her videos weren’t watched by many people, her first video took over a month to get 100 views! But as she uploaded more videos more often she saw her view count getting bigger each time.
Not long after this, when Madison was 17, she got an email from a record producer asking her to come to London for a meeting. It was here when Madison got signed to army records and was asked to start recording an album.
Madison started recording her album immediately. She left college and moved down to London to work day and night on her album, whilst still uploading youtube videos when she could.

Finally after two years of waiting, Madison released her first single ‘Trust’ which went to number 1 within a few hours. Three months later, much to her fans delight she released her debut album ‘sunset’ which also shot to number 1.

I decided to include information such as 'passing her exams' to set a good example for the target audience and so she appeals to some adults for being a good example.

Gallery page

For the gallery page, I will put all of the photos that I chose to possible use into contact sheets and upload them to this page on the website.
Then I will create an 'enlarge' button which when clicked will take the reader to enlarged versions of the photos, one to a slide, with navigation arrows and an exit button on every slide.

E-Media

What do you intend to produce? (Ideas Synopsis)
I intend to produce 3 a4 pages of work. These a4 pages will be one full a4 advert, advertising my artist’s album. The other two pages will be used for creating a prepared interview in the form of a double page spread, intended to be used in a magazine as a magazine article.

I will also produce and e-Media website of three pages about the artist. These three pages will be a home page, an info page about the artist and a gallery page showing photos that I have taken in a mock up photoshoot.

Intentions based on research

Genre: Pop                  Sub-Genre

Generic Conventions (Link to the specific platforms you are working in)
For the three a4 print pages, I will create them using Adobe Photoshop elements.

For the e-Media website, I am going to create those three pages on Microsoft Powerpoint.

Audience and how they will be targeted
My target audience will be older teenage girls, and they will be targeted by creating an artist who is similar to teenage girls so that the teenagers can connect easily to the artist. I will also target my target audience by using popular media and social networking sites such as twitter, as this encourages the target audience to connect with the artist, which means that they are more likely to become more and more interested in the artist.

Institution
The institution for my artist would be a small record company, as she is a new artist so she wouldn't be signed to a big record company.

Influences
For creating my artist, I was inspired by other real-life artists. The artists that I was inspired by are the artists that were in my research, Florence and the Machine, as there were features in all of the three artists that I want to be features of my artist.

Title screens/Typography/Layout/Navigation/Interactivity Generic Conventions
In my website, I want the layout and navigation to be quite simple so that it is easy for the audience to go through the website without any difficulties. I also want some interactivity such as a twitter screen shot and a video on the home page of the website to make it more interactive.

In the album advert and magazine advert, I again want the layout to be very simple and conventional of adverts and magazine articles, for example, the photo in a magazine article to take up one a4 page of the article. I want the important information on the screen/page to be in the largest text to make it stand out, where as the main information, for example the article in the magazine article, to be smaller so that more information can fit in and so it doesn't over power the whole page.

Characters
My friend will be the artist in my photos and video that I use for my advert, article and website.

Settings/Locations

I will use a living room setting for the photos that I take, to make my artist appear to be humble and down to earth. Also i think the home setting will appeal to the target audience as it will be something they can relate to, as a home setting is a familiar setting with my target audience.

Props/Costumes/Mise-en-scene
The costumes that I want to use will be floral dresses with trainers and boots. The floral dresses will represent my artist as being girly and will appeal to the girly teenage girls in my target audience. The trainers and boots will represent the artist as being edgy as well as girly, as the trainers will give the costume an edgy feel. This will appeal to the teenage girls in my target audience who aren't particularly girly

Image/Lighting (Moving Image/Still)
I will use still images for my work, with one moving image video in my website. I will have a variety of shots, most being mid-shots however some close ups, and a few high and low angle shots. I also plan to take some cantered angle shots. The lighting that I will use in my photographs will be natural lighting. This will represent the artist as . The natural lighting will also come from the side on some of the shots which will hopefully create a unique shadow in the photograph.

Use of Sound
There will be no sound in my final pieces, as I am creating two print pieces and there will be no videos or music playing options on my website.

Editing and Effects
All of my editing will be done on Photoshop. I will add 'noise' effects over the top of solid colours to give the colour a subtle edginess and make it more interesting. I will also edit out backgrounds on my photos so that there are no harsh lines on my work which would be created by the photos background. The e-Media website pages will be put together on powerpoint however some of the features in the website will be edited on photoshop.

Full page advert for an album

This is a full page advert promoting the album from the artist Florence and the Machine.
In this advert, the background colour is black, which gradients to a grey towards the top of the advert.
This represents the artist as being quite dark, serious with meaningful music, because black is a dark, serious colour. The colour black is also often seen as a sad and angry colour, which could represent the music that the artist makes as being meaningful, sad and angry.

The dark coloured background also tells us that the audience for the artist is male and female aged about 16-25. A dark coloured background would not suit a female audience who are aged around 12, as they would want to see girly colours not black.

The image that is used in this advert is a mid-shot which shows off the costume that she is wearing.
The costume that shes wearing shows of the lungs which is the name of the album. This connects the image with the album and ties the advert together.

The rest of the costume is simple and doesn't really stand out, which means that the other elements of the advert, for example, the text, is going to more likely catch the audiences eyes so they don't forget or ignore it.

The mid-shot also shows off the top of the artists costume and the artists face. This allows the audience to see and recognise the artist easily, while also discovering the top of the artists costume. Doing this allows the audience to guess what the genre of music will be on this album and also allows them to connect the image with the album name, as a pair of lungs are featured in the image, as well as being the album name.

The artist in the image has a sombre expression on her face.
This also represents the artist and their music as being serious and meaningful because the image will parallel with the music.

The background on the image is a lot of plants.
This represents the album and artist as being pure and real, much like nature is.
The text for this advert tells the audience who the artist is, what the album is called, when it is released, what some of the more well known songs on the album are, what format the album is available on and the website for the artist.

The makers of this advert have made the most important information on this advert, such as the album and artist name, the biggest text on the advert. This is so it stands out for the audience and allows them to find the most important information easily.

It also grabs other audiences eyes who aren't looking for anything in particular on the advert. Having the most important information on the advert in the largest text encourages the audience to keep reading the rest of the text on the advert to find out more about the album.

The style of the text on the advert is also very simple.
Using a simple font for this album advert doesn't attract too much attention away from the image, however, it also isn't too boring so that people are put off reading it. The text colour is white which contrasts against the black background. This makes the text stand out and eye catching for the audience. White is also a pure colour, which could represent the pure, meaningful songs on the album.

Advert for the tour

This is an advert advertising an artists tour.
The background of the tour advert is plain black.
This plain black background represents the artist as being serious and meaningful, as that is what black is seen as often. This black background also suggests that the genre of music that this artist makes is serious and possibly quite moody, as this is what the colour black is often seen as.
The black background contrasts against the white text.
This allows for the text to be seen easily. It also makes the white text stand out more so it is more likely to catch the audiences eyes, even if they were far away. This makes the audience interested in the advert so they are more likely to look at it. If they like the advert then they are also more likely to remember the advert and want to go to the tour.
The background of the advert is also a plain black, with no detail in it. This suggests that the tour will be quite plain and simple, like the advert is. This would encourage people to go and see it because the audience will think that the tour is all about the music and it wont be over the top.
At the very top of the advert, is the name of the producers.
This tells the audience who have produced this tour. This makes the tour advert look more real and professional. This encourages the audience to buy tickets to the tour because they will be more impressed with the professional looking advert.
The word 'present' in this small text at the top of the advert also makes the tour advert feel more personal to the audience.
It makes the audience feel as though they are being personally presented with this tour, which encourages them to buy tickets as the tour advert feels personal to them.
This is also placed at the top of the advert to represent these people as being important.
People who are important are often placed at the top of a page for example, so placing this at the top of the advert makes them look important, and higher than all of the other names on this advert.
Below that, is the name of the artist 'Florence and the Machine'
This text is the largest and boldest on the advert. This makes this feature the most eye catching part of the advert. This means that the audience is more likely to look at this first, so they will recognise who the advert is advertising. This means that the audience doesn't have to spend ages looking at the advert trying to figure out who it is advertising. Having the artists name as the largest and boldest text on the advert makes it more likely that the audience will remember the artist and the tour advert for longer. This means they are more likely to buy tickets as they are less likely to forget about buying them.
Underneath the artist name is text introducing the special guests that will be joining the artist on tour.
The text 'with special guests' encourages the audience to go and see the tour as there will be special guests there. Describing these guests as special encourages the audience to go to the tour because this represents the guests as unmissable.
The special guests name 'The XX' is in larger text, but not larger than the main artists name.
This makes them eye catching, however not as eye catching as the main artists name. This means that the audience will look at the guests name, however wont be completely distracted by it and forget about Florence and the Machine. This also represents this artist as being important as the text advertising them is larger, however, not as important as the main artist, Florence and the Machine, as the text advertising them is larger and more eye catching.
Having 'The XX' included on the advert encourages their fans to go and see the tour, to see The XX.

The main image on the advert is the same one as the one that's on the album advert.
This allows the audience to recognise the artist even quicker, as they will recognise the image from the album advert. This also tells the audience that the tour will feature songs from this album. This encourages the audience to go and see the tour if they enjoyed the album.

Below the main image, is the date that the tour is on.
This information is one of the largest texts on the advert. This is so that the information is eye catching to the audience. This allows the audience to think about whether they are free on that date to be able to go to the tour. Having this text larger also means that the audience will be more likely to remember the information for longer, which means they are more likely to remember about the tour for longer.

Having the date of the tour on the advert also allows the audience to make plans if they are going to buy tickets. This encourages the audience to buy tickets because it shows that the tour will be organised, as it has important information on the advert.

The advert also has where the tour will take place.
This allows the audience to think about whether they will be able to go to the tour, or if it will be too far away. This encourages the audience to buy tickets if they are close enough because it wont be too much effort for them to make lots of plans about travel.

The information on how and where to book tickets is underneath.
This encourages the audience to go on the tour because it shows to the audience how easy it is to book tickets to go on the tour.

Giving away different ways of booking tickets also makes it easier for the audience to book tickets, so if they dont have the internet for example, they could still book tickets over the phone. This also allows people who have seen the advert in the street and are interested in going, can book them straight away if they have thir mobile, instead of having to remember the website adress and wait until they get home.

The advert then tells the audience that they can purchase the tickets now.
This encourages them to purchase tickets, because if the audience wants to go on tour, they might get worried that they wont get tickets if they know that the tickets are on sale now. This means that they are more likely to purchase tickets as soon as possible, as they might be worried that if they dont do it as soon as possible, they might miss out on tickets.

This information is also in a white box.
This makes it stand out against all of the other information and makes it look more important than the other information.

Prepared interview

This is an example of a prepared interview with Florence and the Machine in the form of a double page spread.
The main image for this prepared interview takes up one page.
It is the first thing that the audience will see on the interview. This allows them to see a picture of the artist in the interview. This means that if they know the artist they will recognie them instantly, which saves them having to read the begining of the interview to find out who the article is about. This encourages the audience to read the prepared interview because they havent had to read the bedginning of the interview without knowing who the interview is about.

The main image uses a long shot which allows the audience to see the artists whole body, which means that the audience can see the artists outfit.
The artist is wearing a black dress with black boots. This represents her and her music as being serious and meaningful, because black is a colour which is often associated with these meanings. The artists hair colour stands out from the rest of her outfit, which represents her and her music as being serious, but also has a bit fun as red can be a fun colour.

Behind the main image, is the text saying 'USA', which is the largest text on the interview.
This catches the audience's eyes after they have looked at the image. The text then leads the audiences attention to the text on the other page, as the 'USA' text spans out over two pages. This encourages them to read the main text on the other page as they are being led to it by the 'USA' text.

The 'USA' text is the only text on the interview that isnt black.
This is done so that the text isnt too distracting from the image for the audience. If the text was black, then it would stand out from the contrasting white background, which would make this text more eyecatchign than the background and the other text, as this text is the largest text on the interview layout. This text is also grey and not black, becuase it goes behind the image and the title of the interview. This would cause the text to disappear becuase the text lays over the top of the 'USA' text.
The title of the magazine is 'USA got the love'.
The title of the magazine is taken from one of the aritsts songs, 'You've got the love'. This attracts an audience who are fans of the aritst,as they will recognise the connection between the interview title and the artsits song. This encourages the audience to read the prepared interview because they will recognise that this interview is with the artist from the interview title. It also makes the audience wonder whether the artist will talk about her music and possibly new music. This encourages fans to read so they can find out this infromation.

The font for the text 'got the love' is swirly and looks similar to handwiritng.
This suggests that the target audience for the artist is mainly females. As females are sterotypically more likely to like swirly handwriting. The title also has the word 'love' in it, which also suggests that the audience for this artist is mainly females, as females are steryotypically more interested in love than males are.

Underneath the title of the interview is credits to the people who created the double page spread.
This makes the interview seem more professional and real as it shows that people have made the prepared interview
Before the interview begins, there is an opening chunk of text which introduces the artist.
This encourages the audience to read the whole interview because it captures the audiences attention by asking them an interesting question. This makes them want to read the whole interview to find out the answer.
The colour for this text is black, apart from the artists name which is blue.
This makes the artists name stand out, as there is nothing else that is blue on the page. This will catch the audiences attention if they are just flicking through because the artists name will contrast against everything else on the page, as there is no similar colour on the page. Doing this also makes it easier for people who dont know the artist to find out who she is quicker, as her name will stand out from the other text. This encourages the audience to read the interview as they wont be reading an interview with someone who they havent heard of before.

At the beginning of the main text, the first letter is larger than the other letters.
This indicates to the audience that this is the begining of the interview, as the larger letter is a clear sign that the interview starts here. This encourages the audience to read the interview becuase they wont be lost on the page and wondering where the interview actually starts.
The font that has been used for the first letter of the text, is the sameone that is used fro the title of the magazine.

This creates consistensy in the double page spread, which makes it easier for the audience to see that this text belongs with the title of the magazine.

The font used on this prepared interview, is a cursive, formal font.

This represents the artist as being girly, but classy and sometimes even old fashioned, as cursive fonts are often seen as being old fashioned. This appeals to the target audience for this artist because the target audience for this artist, which is females aged around 16 - 25, as this group of people tend to like classy artists.

The cursive writing also suggests that the type of music that this artist might make is girly as cursive writing is often associated with being girly. However the cursive font also suggests that the music the artist makes could be serious at times as well, as old fashioned cursive writing is often seen as being serious.

The main text on this page is set out into three columns.
This makes it easier for the audience to read, as it isn't just one big paragraph of chunky text. It also encourages the audience to read the article as the text doesn't seem to be daunting and long as it is separated.

The text is also not very large.

This allows a lot of text to fit onto one page. However the text isn't so small that the audience can't read it without holding the prepared interview close to their face, or squinting.

The artist is sat on a box which has an American flag placed on it.
This makes the main image look more interesting, as more colour is added to the image. It also helps tie the image in with the title, as the title mentions the 'USA' and the main image features an American flag. This makes the audience want to read the magazine as when different elements of the magazine are connected like this, it makes the magazine seem more professional, which makes the article look more interesting thus making the audience want to read the prepared interview.

(c) e-Media

Website page

This is a screen shot taken from the Florence and the Machines website.
The background for the website page is a grey colour.
The grey colour is a plain, non eye catching colour which means that the other elements of the website have the full attention of the audience and they aren't distracted by the background.
Around the side of where the text for the website there is yellow shapes.
As the shapes seem to be leading closer towards the main, most important part of the website, it helps draw the audiences attention into the most important part of the website.

At the top of the website, is the artists name
This is placed at the top because it shows that the artist is the most important, and it above all of the other names on the website.

Also if the audience is reading the website from top to bottom, which is what you expect, the artists name will the be the first thing they see. This means that they immediately know who the website is about. This means they dont have to scroll through a lot of the website to find out who its about and miss a lot of the important stuff in the website.

Underneath that, is a picture of the artist.
This helps the audience recognize the artist. It also puts a face to the name, which helps the audience feel more connected to the artist, as they know that the artist is an actual person and not just a name.

There is then a row of selections which take the audience to different places in the website.
These are placed here so that its one of the first things that the audience sees. This helps the audience not get lost and so its easier for the audience to find a specific place for where they want to go.

When the audience has selected a place to go, the place on the selection row has brackets around it.
This allows the audience to easily and clearly see where they are on the website, which helps them navigate easier as they know where they are on the website.
Then there is a box where the main information for the website is.
This is placed all together so that the audience only has to look in one place, and they know what order to read the website in. It also helps concentrate the audiences attention on the most important part of the website, as it would be odd to have any more information away from this information on the page, and the audience wouldn't expect it, which means they don't miss anything.

There is then a banner with another picture of the artist and information about the new single/
This is next to the picture of the artist.
This is done so that the audience knows that this information does have something to do with the artist. It also tells the audience that all of this information is connected as they are in the same place in the same box.

Underneath the singles name, is text telling the audience that the single is out now and where you can buy it.
This encourages the audience to buy the single because it is directing them to where they can buy it. This encourages the audience to buy the album because it means that they don't have to spend ages on the internet or on iTunes looking for the album. This makes them less likely to give up on finding the album and buying it as they are directed exactly where to go.
The same image is used here that was used before.
This creates consistency and tells the audience that this piece of information is about the artist. This means the audience doesn't get too confused about who the artist is.

Underneath this banner, is the main text for the website.
This text is all placed together so that the audience doesn't get lost, and so they know where all of the main text on the page is.

Next to each of the different stories, is social media links.
This encourages the audience to connect with the artist, which then allows the audience to see different and upcoming events that the artist may be doing. It also encourages the audience to spread the website stories so that more and more people will hear of the artist.

Behind this text, is a simple pattern.
This makes the text box more interesting for the audience to look at, without drawing their attention away from the text, as it isn't just a plain colour.

Around the side of this main text box, is a yellow border.
This catches the audience's attention and draws them to the text on the website., as it stands out again the white it is next to.

To the side of the website is a youtube video of the artist most recent song.
This encourages the audience to watch the video so that they are more likely to buy it after they have heard it. It also encourages them to listen to more of the artists music.

Advert for album

This is an advert advertising an artists debut album.
In this advert, the artists name 'Ariana Grande' is at the top of the advert.
It has been placed at the top of the advert because that is where the reader is most likely to look first on the advert. This introduces the artist to the reader, so that they are recognised quickly. Having the artist name at the top of the advert also represents the artist as being important, as normally important people are put at the top of a list/page etc.

The artist name is also in capital letters. This makes the name of the artist stand out more so that if the reader doesn't see the artists name immediately, the capital letters make the text more eye catching so that the reader will see it quicker.
This artists album is called 'Yours Truly', it's placed under the artists name and rotated at an angle.
The saying, 'Yours Truly' is used sometimes at the end of a letter, so the album title being rotated suggests that it is imitating the end of a letter, as nobody writes perfectly straight. The font that was used for 'Yours Truly' looks like handwriting, which also suggests that this is imitating the end of a letter. Using this font for the advert to imitate the end of a letter represents the album as being personal, as letters that you write can be personal, especially ones that you end with 'Yours Truly'. It also represents the album as being honest and real, as this is also what you expect a letter to be. This makes the audience want to buy the album as most people want to buy music that has a meaning and music that the artist cares about.

Most of the text on this advert is white, which contrasts against the dark background.

This makes it stand out and more likely to catch the audiences eye so that they are more likely to look at the advert and be more interested in buying the album.

However, not all of the text is white, 'Yours Truly' and '3' are in pink.

This makes this information stand out against the other white text. It also makes the text more interesting so that it isn't all white, which makes the audience more likely to want to read it.
The pink text also represents the artist as being girly. This is because the conventional and most famous girly colour is pink.

A close up of the artist is used for the main image of this advert.
A close up has been used so that the audience recognises the artist quickly, as the main image is always one of the first things that the audience looks at. Using a close up also allows the image of the artist to not be too big so that it dominates the page, but not too small so that the artist isn't recognisable immediately.

The close up also represents the artist as being open and wanting to be close to the audience, as a close up isn't distant from the artist like a long shot is.

The pose that the artist is standing in is one where she is tilting her head towards the light. This makes the lighting on the artist's face the lightest part.
This means that the artists face is the most eye catching, which makes the artist easy to recognise easy as the audience is most likely to look at the brightest part of the image face, as this is the most eye catching. The light on the artists face represents the artist as being pure and innocent, as a light is shining down on her face. As the light is shining down on the artists face, it suggests that the light is coming from above, which helps represent the artist as being pure, true and innocent, as this is what most people think of when they think of heaven.

The lighting also gives us an idea of the genre of music in the album, as the light is simple and laid back, that the genre of music on the album will be r&b because r&b music is laid back and relaxing, much like the lighting in this advert.

This pose is also the same pose that is on the album cover, which is shown on the left side of the advert.
This is so the advert and the album have something in common so people who see the advert, can make the connection with the album and the advert easily.

The image has also been edited so that it is black and white. This matches the album cover so that it is easier to recognise that the advert and the album are about the same artist and album.

The black and white edit also makes the whole advert very simple and clean cut. This represents the artist as being clean cut, innocent and simple because the black and white edit doesn't give much away about the artist.

The release date 'September 3rd' is the second largest text on the advert.
This makes it stand out so that the audience sees it quickly. This tells the audience that this information is important as it stands out against the contrast of the dark background. Its also near the bottom of the advert so if the audience reads the advert from top to bottom, then this information is more likely to be remembered by the audience as it will be one of the last things that the audience reads.

'Available at Target' tells the audience where they can buy the album when it is released.
The brand 'Target' and its logo is in red so that it stands out against everything else in the advert as it is the only bright colour. Target is also always written in red so this makes it very recognisable so that the audience recognises it immediately. This means that the audience doesn't have to spend too much time thinking about where you can buy it as they are more likely to remember it as its recognisable.

At the bottom of the advert, 'arianagrande.com' tells the readers where they can go to find out more about the artist and the album.
It is at the bottom of the page so that it is more likely to be read last, and therefore more likely to be remembered.

Advert for tour

This is an advert for the debut tour of Ariana Grande.
The two only colours on this advert are black and white. This makes the advert very simple, but also effective. The advert being simple suggests that the tour will also be simple and all about the music being performed. This will encourage the audience to go and see the tour as it will all be about the music, and not about an extravagant show which is over the top.
The main image is a silhouette of the artist that this advert is promoting.
This makes the image stand out because it is unusual. It also doesn't give much information about the artist because you cant see her properly, this encourages people who aren't fans of the artist already to go and see the tour to find more about her as this advert doesn't give much information about her from the image, which is the only main source of information that we have about the artist.
The white circle behind the artist makes the silhouette of the artist see able, as if it wasn't there, then the readers wouldn't be able to see the image.

The image is needed to help readers recognise the artist if they aren't fans of her and don't know much about her.
The white circle behind the artist looks like the moon. This suggests that the artist and the music is thoughtful and deep thinking as the image is simple and entrancing, like the moon. The moon like circle is large in comparison to the artist silhouette, this suggests that she is special and ethereal as she appears to be closer to the 'moon' than naturally possible.

The dark background and the contrast of the white make the advert unconventionally relaxing, as its very simple and clean. This suggests that the genre of music will be r&b as this genre of music is relaxing and meaningful. It also suggests to the audience that the music will be clean and okay for children to listen to, which encourages the audience to buy it for themselves or as a gift as they are assured that the music will be clean.
The artists name 'Ariana Grande' is placed at the top of the advert.
This is because the first place that the reader should look is at the top of the advert. If the reader does this, then placing the artist name at the top of the page assures that this is the first thing that the reader will see so that they will recognise who the artist is immediately. If the artist name wasn't at the top of the page, then the reader would be looking around the advert wondering who it is promoting if they aren't familiar with the artist.
Having the artist name at the top of the advert, also represents her as being important, as important things/people are typically placed above everything and everyone else.
The title of the tour 'The Listening Sessions' is a relaxing, chilled back name.
This suggests that the tour will be informal and laid back. This encourages the reader to go to the tour as it will be fun, not over the top and just a relaxing night.
Under the title of the tour, is the information telling the readers that this is the artists 'Debut tour', which makes people want to go as most artists debut tours aren't that hard to get tickets too.
It also encourages people to go as debut suggests that whilst this is the artists first tour, there will be more tours to come in the future. This suggests that the artist will get more popular so therefore in the future it will be harder to get tickets, so it encourages the reader to go to this tour, whilst it would be easier to get tickets to see the artist.

The dates of the tour show the date and place.
This is the most important information on the advert as it tells the audience where the tour will go to. This encourages people to buy tickets if they see that one of the dates is close to where they live because it wont be too much effort to go there.
The different dates are also set out on a line each. This makes it really easy for the audience to read and doesn't baffle them too much. It also doesn't put them off reading it as if it was all one line then they would be less likely to ignore it as it would be too much effort to scan through the line to look for a date which they could go to. It also makes the advert look more professional and clean as it is set out nicely.

Prepared interview
Example of a prepared interview.
In this prepared interview the main image is in the middle of the two pages.
This will be the first thing that the audience sees when they open the page to the interview, which means that if the audience is interested in the artist, they don't have to spend their time looking around on the page for who the article is about, so they can just get reading the article straight away which saves the audience time.

The long medium shot of the artist also allows the audience to see the artist's outfit. This makes the audience want to look at the image to look at the outfit that she is wearing if they aren't particularly interested in the artist. After the audience has looked at the artists outfit, they are more likely going to want to read the article as they have already spent time on the page and have probably caught glimpses of the pull quotes in the article.

To the left of the main image, is a pull quote, taken from the interview.
This catches the audiences attention as it is in colours that stand out against the back ground, which makes it eye catching. Also because the quote has been rotated and arched makes it look more interesting, which makes it more likely that the audience will read it to see what it says. They will then want to read the rest of the interview to find out what the artist is talking about in the pull quote.

Around the whole interview, is bits of text in pink circles.
These circles have been filled in bright pink which is very contrasting against the background, which makes these pink circles stand out. This makes them eye catching so people who are just skim ready the article will be more likely to stop and read the text within the pink circles. Doing this then makes them interested in the article so they are more likely to go back and read the whole article.

At the end of the interview, there is text in a purple box.
This is placed at the bottom right of the page, which means that people who are just flicking through the magazine will see the purple box and stop to read what it says as its eye catching. This then makes them interested in the article so the audience is more likely going to read the article.

Colours such as pink and purple suggest that the target audience for this prepared interview will be younger girls, as these are typical colours that are favourites for younger girls. Bright colours also attract younger girls which makes them more interested in the article which makes them more likely going to want to read it.

There is smaller images in the prepared interview.
Smaller images of the artist are placed within the interview to help break up the page, so that it isn't just text on the page. This is more appealing to the audience and encourages them to read the interview and the picture makes it look like there is less writing than there is on the page.

The smaller image is an image of the artist that the article is about. This makes everything on the page consistent so that the younger audience is less likely to get confused.

The interview text is written in two different colours, pink for the interviewer, and black for the artist.
Doing this makes it easier for the audience to distinguish who is saying what in the article, which makes them more likely to want to read it because it wont seem too difficult to read.

Using the colour pink to help break up the interview is eye catching for the audience as it is a different colour to black. This makes it more interesting for the audience as different colours are being used.

The background of this prepared interview is white.
This makes all of the features in the magazine article stand out and be more eye catching, which makes it more likely for more people to read the article because these features catching the audiences eyes makes it more interesting to the audience so they are going to want to read the article to find out what happens in it.

The background is also a plain white with no patterns on the background. This makes it easier for the audience to read the text that is in the article and also doesn't draw any attention away from the features of this article like a background with patterns in would do.

(c) e-Media

Website page
Screen shot taken from the artists own website.
On this website, the main image is the same image that has been used throughout all of the adverts.
This continuity helps the reader recognise the artist quickly so that they don't have to spend lots of time looking at the website wondering who it is. It also helps tie all of the products together so that people can recognise that its advertising the same thing.

There is also a black and white edit that has been edited onto the photo.
This again, helps with continuity because all of the advertising and the album cover all have a black and white edit. This helps the audience recognise who the artist is, because if they have seen the album cover or the adverts advertising the artists album then they can make the connection between the two, so that they don't have to spend ages looking at the website wondering who the artist is.

At the top of the website page, a facebook link and a twitter link are placed.
These links are placed at the top of the website because it is where they are conventionally placed on a website. These links are on the website so it encourages fans of the artist to 'like' her facebook page and tweet her. This allows the fans to stay in contact with the artist and they are more likely to keep checking the artist if they like or tweet her, which means that if any new information on her album or tour or anything important, then they will find out easily.
If someone also likes or tweets the fan, then this means that people who is friends with or follows this person, who isn't necessarily a fan of the artist, will be more likely to look at this artist which makes them more likely to become a fan of the artist and buy the album, merchandise and tour tickets.

The name of the album 'Yours Truly' is underneath the facebook and twitter links.
This is placed here because when you look at a website, you usually look at the top of the page first, so placing this here means that this should be the first thing that the reader sees. This makes them think about the artist and the album so, if they know of the artist or album, they will know who the website is for almost immediately.

The artists name 'Ariana Grande' is under neath the album name
This fits with the theme that the album is like a letter, because at the end of a letter, you can put 'Yours Turly' then followed by your name, which is what has been done here.

The artists name is the largest text on the website page, which makes it the most eye catching part of the website. This is so people who have found the website know who the website is for. Having the artists name as one of the most eye catching features on the website means that people don't have to spend ages looking through the website trying to find out who it is about.

Text telling the audience that the album is available now if in the middle of the website page.
This is placed here because if the audience read the website from top to bottom, the 'available now' text would be the last thing you read on the page. This makes it more likely that the audience will remember that the album is available now. As they have already read the most important information on the website page, which means that the audience can go and buy the album straight away without having to put it off to read the rest of the important information on the website.

Underneath that, is links to iTunes and Spotify, which is where you can buy the album online.
This encourages the audience to go straight to these links to buy the album because they have read the most important information on the website already, and the audience have just found out that the album is available now, so buying the album will already have been on their minds.

These links also make it easier for the audience to buy the album because they don't have to spend ages looking on the internet for where to buy it. This encourages the audience to buy the album because buying the album has been simplified for the audience by adding these links.

There is then a YouTube video of one of the artists music videos.
This is placed here for people who aren't sure if they want to buy the album. If they haven't heard any of the artists music before, then they can listen to this song so they can decide whether they like the music. If they do like the music then they are more likely going to want to buy the album.

To the side of the website page, there is a scroller.
This allows the audience to be able to scroll down the website to see more of it.

Example 3

This is another advert advertising an artists album.
The background of this advert is white.
This contrasts against the dark colours in the image and the red. Having a background which contrasts against the main features of an advert, makes the main features stand out. This means that the main features of the advert are more likely to be seen from a further distance to catch peoples eyes.

The background for this advert however isn't just one colour. It has different tones of the main background colour.
Adding this texture to the background makes the background more interesting. However, it isn't so interesting that it would draw attention away from the important information in the advert. Adding this texture to the background of the advert makes the audience more likely to look at the advert for longer. This makes the audience more likely to buy the album as they will be looking at it for longer so they will more likely remember the advert for longer.

The artists name 'One Direction' is placed towards the top of the advert
This means that the audience is most likely going to see the artist name as one of the first things they see on the album advert. Placing the artist name somewhere its likely for it to be one of the first things the reader spots, makes the reader recognise who the advert is advertising immediately. It also allows people who already know about the album, to be reminded about the advert so they are more likely to buy it.

The artists name is also placed in front of a red banner.
This allows the white text to not blend in with the background behind it so that the text is unreadable. This makes the artists name more eye catching, which means that it will be likely to be one of the first things that the audience sees when they look at this advert. This means that they are going to immediately recognise who this advert is advertising, so they don't have to look around the advert for too long wondering who the advert is about.

The main image for this advert is a long medium shot of the artist.
This long medium shot allows the audience to see the artist without the shot being too far away that they can't recognise the artist at a distance, but not too close up so that all of the members of the band can't fit onto the same image.

The long medium shot also allows us to see the artists outfits. Their all wearing t-shirts, jeans and some of the members are wearing coats. This is a laid back style, which suggests that the genre of music on this album is quite laid back. However, as you can see one of the members tattoos, this suggests that some of the music on the album will have some rocky, edgy songs on it. The costumes also represent the artist as being laid back and cool, but also slightly edgy.

Towards the bottom of the advert, is the name of the album which is being advertised 'Midnight Memories'
This has been placed here so that after the audience has looked at the artists name and the main image, they should look down the rest of the advert so that the title of the album will be the next thing that they see. This is placed towards the lower end of the advert so that it is one of the last things that the audience reads, which makes them more likely to remember the advert title and for longer. This makes them more likely to buy it as they will be thinking about it. It also makes them more likely to talk about the album if they have remembered the album name to someone, which makes that person likely to buy it as the album is being talked about.

At the bottom of the advert, is the release date for the album, which is '25th November'
This is placed at the bottom of the advert so that it is the last thing that the audience sees. This makes it likely that this information will be remembered by the audience for the longest, as it was the last thing they read on the advert. This makes the audience more likely to go and buy the album as they will remember the release date for the album. As the album wasn't already released when this poster was made, it allows the audience enough time to get excited about the album, which makes them more likely to go out and buy the album as soon as its released, as the anticipation of waiting will have made them excited for the album.

Having this information also helps the audience, as it saves the audience wondering when the album will be coming out, and it saves them having to search for the release date for the album.

There is also another red banner behind the release date, like there is one behind the artists name. This helps the whole advert tie in together, as there will be multiple features which are similar on the advert. Having similar features appear a few times on an advert is also more likely going to make the audience remember the advert for longer, as they are more likely to remember the features that they saw a few times on the advert.

The colour of this text is white, like the other text in this advert.

This creates consistency in the advert and ties everything in together. It also makes the advert look more professional, as a colour scheme for the advert is more obvious, which in this adverts case it red, white and black.

The font for the texts is also very similar. They all have the same handwritten style which looks like it has been written using a paintbrush. This represents the artist as being creative, as paintbrushes and painting are usually associated with being creative. It also suggests that the genre of music will be pop, as pop is a popular genre, like painting is a popular hobby that people have. Having the similar fonts for the whole advert also makes the advert look more professional, as everything isn't mismatched.

At the top and at the left hand side of the main image, there is some extra detail on the advert.
This makes the advert more interesting to look at, as without these added extras the space would just be more of the background. These interesting extras are also more likely to catch the audiences eye and make them want to look at it, as it makes the advert more colourful and interesting to look at.

Around the edges of the main image, is a black border, which looks like it has been drawn directly onto the advert using a pencil.
This helps draw the audiences attention into the main image, which is where the artists name and the album title is also placed within this black border. This makes it more likely that the audience will see these features first, which is good as they are the most important information on the advert. Making these features some of the first things that the audience sees is important as it means that the audience doesn't have to spend ages looking at the advert wondering who the advert is about or what it is advertising.

This is an advert advertising a tour that the artist is going on.
At the top of the advert, is the artists logo

Underneath the logo, is the artists name 'One Direction'
This text is in the same font that its in for all of the other adverts about this artist.

The colour of this text is the same colour as some of the clothes that members in the band are wearing.

Underneath the artists name, is the main image.
The main image is a long shot.

The long shot image allows the audience to see the outfits that the members of the band are wearing.

The dates for the tour is underneath the main image.

However, there is a 'sold out' box put over the top of the tour dates.
This shows that the artist is very popular, as they have sold out all of their dates at this arena. This encourages the audience to want to go to the tour as they will want to see a popular artist.

Underneath the tour dates is a red banner telling the audience that 'extra dates added due to overwhelming public demand'
These words that have been used emphasise the demand for these tickets. This makes the audience want the tickets more as it tells the audience that these tickets are wanted by lots of people and that it may not be guaranteed that you will get tickets.

This text is placed in a red banner, which makes it stand out from everything else on the advert.

The added dates to the tour are placed underneath the text telling the audience that extra dates have been added.
This helps the audience not get confused as to when the added dates are.

Putting the extra dates under the text informing the audience about the added dates also saves the audience from looking around the advet wondering when the added dates are.

The 'O2' is placed in the second largest text.
This is so it stands out to the audience so they know where these dates on the tour will be. This helps the audience as it means they won't get confused as to where the tour will be if they are thinking about going on one of these dates. It also helps the audience decide whether they want to go or not, depending on where they live. Placing the arena name on the advert also helps the audience make plans if they are going to go on the tour.

Then there is a phone number for the audience to ring and a website for them to buy online if they want tickets.
This is placed towards the bottom of the advert so that it is one of the last things that the audience reads. This means that the audience is more likely going to remember this information for longer, which means that if they want tickets, they are less likely going to forget how and where they can get tickets from.

The advert then gives the website address for the artist.
This encourages the audience reading the advert to visit the artist website, as they have been provided with it which means the audience doesnt have to search for it.

The website address is put in the mint green colour that has been used throughout the advert.
This makes it stand out against the rest of the advert and the white background. It also is connected with other parts of the advert, as the mint green has been used elsewhere on this advert.

Next to this is the text telling the audience about the 'debut album up all night out now'
This is placed next to the text about the artists website address so people reading the advert will read this information straight after reading the website address.

The album name 'up all night' has been put in a red colour, which is another colour in the colour scheme.
This makes nothing in the advert seem mismatched and makes everything tie in together. This makes the advert seem more professional as well.

Around the outside of the main features of the advert, is a red box.
This borders the main features of the advert and draws the audiences attention into these main features.
The background of the advert is plain white.
This is so the audience doesn't get distracted by the background so none of their attention on the main features of the advert is lost.

This is a prepared interview with One Direction.
The main image takes up the whole of the two pages in this advert.

The main image uses a long shot.
This allows the audience to see all of the members of the band clearly, and still allows the audience to see the whole of their outfits as well.

All of the band members outfits match a colour scheme, which is black and white.
Ties whole interview togehter, as colour scheme of the interview is black white and red. Makes interview look more professional as everything looks like it belongs in the interview.

The title of the interview is 'live while we're young' is placed towards the bottom of the left page.
This is placed here so that it doesnt cover the faces of the artist. Its placed on the left page to make it easier for the audience, as when you read, you read from left to right.

The title is 'live while we're young' which is a title of one of the bands singles.
This allows the audience who is reading to make connections with the artist, if they cant remember a song that the artists sings, then this title will remind them of one of their songs

 The title also isnt capitalised.
This represents artist as not being serious. Suggests genre of music is pop, which isnt serious music, more light hearted songs. Suggests the audience suited for this artist is younger, as younger people tend to use improper grammar more often then older people.

Opening of interview is seperated from main text.
Makes it easier for the audience to read all of the text on the page, as it isnt just one big chunk of text on one page.

Main text is placed on white background.
Having the text on a white background makes it easier for the audience to read the text. However, the white background is faded slightly to allow the audience to still see the all of the members outfits.

The begining of the text starts with a larger letter.
Indicates the begining of the text

This leter is in red.
This then ties in with whole of the interview.

Small section of text about the artist is at top of the right page.
This allows people flicking through the magazine to see this, encourages them to read it as the text stands out against the dark background.

This is a website for the artist One Direction
At the top of the website, is a black banner.
This stands out against the rest of the website as it is the darkest part.

At the left side of this black banner, is the name of the artist that this website is about 'One Direction'.
This is placed here because when you read it, you read from left to right, so it should be the first thing that the audience reads, making the audience immediately realise who the advert is about

The advert is placed at the top of the page to show importance, as the most important things are usually placed at the top.

The text is in white, this is contrasting against the dark background.
This makes it eye catching for the audience, which makes it even more likely that the audience will read this first. It is important for the audience to read the artists name first because it means they recognise the artist immediately, so they aren't left looking around the website page wondering who it is about.

This text is also in the same font that appears on the album and tour advert.
Doing this creates consistency. Makes it easier for the audience to recognise the artist and their adverts, albums.

To the right of the black banner is a link to where the audience can buy the artists latest album.
Having this link encourages the audience to buy the album as they are reminded that their album is available to buy. Also makes it easier for the audience to buy them album as they just get taken straight to where they can buy it, which saves them having to look around on the internet for where to buy it.

Underneath the black banner, is a red banner, where there is links to different places on the website that the audience can visit such as 'Home, News, Music'
This encourages the audience to visit these places in the website as they are right there for the audience, which saves them having to search for them around the website.

When you are in a certain section of the website, the place where you are at has a black box around it.
This helps the audience if they are lost on the website so they know where they are. It also saves the audience from going to the same place where they already are, without realising it.

At the right side of this banner, is a flag with the words 'Welcome'
This feature allows the audience to choose which language they want the website to appear in. This helps the audience who cant read English, which encourages them to visit the rest of the website and buy the merchandise because they can understand what the website is saying.

Underneath the Welcome feature, is links to the artists different pages, such as Twitter and Facebook.
This encourages the audience to visit these pages as the links are easy for the audience to access. This also appeals to the target audience for this artist, as the target audience will probably have an account for at least one of these.

Underneath this, is a black box telling the audience that the album is 'out now'
This black box stands out from where its placed in the website, because where it is placed is colourful. This draws the audiences attention to the information in the black box, which means that this information is not easily missed.

The main image is the most eye catching thing on the website.
This catches the audiences eye so that they instantly reocognise the artist if they are familiar with them.
The image is the same one that is used on the album advert. This continuity helps the audience recognise the album and the artist. It also makes its less confusing to the audience as to which album they are talking about.

To the right of the main image, is a video which has something to do with the artist.
This encourages the audience to watch the video as it has something to do with the artist. The video also could be informing the audience on something important to do with the artist, meaning that they don't miss out if they watch the video.

The background of the website is mainly white, with some texture and graphics on.
This makes the background more interesting, without taking the audiences attention away from the main features of the website.

The graphics on the background represent the aritst as being creative, as there is drawings on the background.
There is also scrollers on the website.

These scrollers indicate to the audience that there is more of the website to see, which encourages the audience to scroll down/ across so they don't miss out on anything.

Extra Research
I decided to do some extra research on different magazine articles from possible magazines that my prepared interview would go in. I looked at different magazine articles from the magazines Q and NME as i thought these magazines would be the best suited to my artists style and music genre.

Q Magazine examples of double page spread

NME magazine examples of a double page spread

NME and Q are the types of magazine that I will write and make my magazine article for. I chose to go with this style of magazine instead of a pop teenage girl magazine as I think my artists music style and look is too edgy for a typical teenage girl magazine.
